Miriam began practicing law in 1993, and in 2004 opened her family law and mediation practice with offices in Northampton and Greenfield. She believes in less adversarial methods of dispute resolution so focuses on neutral mediation, Collaborative Law, negotiation, consultation, and advocacy. She also serves the newly formed Hampshire County Family Resolutions Specialty Court in an advisory capacity, and as neutral mediator, team coordinator, or attorney representing children and parents in individual cases.
She has spent many years assisting and representing members of the LGBTQ community in divorces, parenting cases, guardianships, name changes, and other family matters. She welcomes referrals through Stonewall UMass and Local Trans Resources, GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), Collaborative Resolutions Group, and her local bar associations. Miriam is a member of the LGBTQ Bar Association, Hampshire County Bar Association, Franklin County Bar Association, and Massachusetts Bar Association.
Miriam coordinates GIVS Legal, which provides lawyer referrals for name changes and gender marker corrections. She also shares educational and awareness-raising opportunities for local lawyers to better serve our clients and community.
Miriam and her husband Andrew (GIVS co-founder) live in Northampton, Massachusetts with their daughter Ilana who attends college and serves as GIVS social media coordinator.
On April 14, 2020, Miriam and Andrew’s 20-year-old daughter Ariel died by suicide. (Her In Memoriam page can be found here.)
